Gresik - BRIN Public Relations. In an effort to preserve manuscripts, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) through the Center for Research on Manuscripts, Literature, and Oral Traditions (PR MLTL) signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with Qomaruddin University. The signing was carried out in the Reading Room of Qomaruddin University, Gresik. In the Cooperation Agreement, BRIN and Qomaruddin University agreed to conduct research, inventory and digitization of manuscripts of the collection of the Qomaruddin University Islamic Boarding School.

The implementation of this cooperation is an effort to preserve manuscripts owned by the Qomaruddin Islamic Boarding School to prevent the loss of the manuscript due to fragility and damage due to age factors. These manuscripts are considered important because they contain the context of the study of Islamic intellectual history, especially in the East Java Islamic Boarding School, especially since the Gresik and Tuban areas are two important areas in the spread of Islam on the island of Java.

"In addition to having researchers who are experts in the field of manuscripts, our research center also has researchers who are experts in the field of oral tradition. Therefore, we invite Qomaruddin University to be able to cooperate in this field later," said the Head of the Research Center for Manuscripts, Literature, and Oral Traditions, Sastri Sunarti in her speech at the signing of the Cooperation Agreement. On this occasion, he also explained about PR MLTL BRIN. He said, PR MLTL has 5 research groups, namely the research group on religious discourse and cultural diversity, the research group on ecology and disaster mitigation, the research group on gastronomy, health and traditional technology, the research group on history and local wisdom, and the research group on character education and mental revolution.

"One of the purposes of our arrival today is in order to collaborate, and this is the right place, to hear approximately three thousand manuscripts owned by Qomaruddin University. This is a living laboratory that we must maintain together," he said.

In his remarks, the Rector of Qomaruddin University, Aswadi, said that this collaboration is an accumulation of the cooperation between the Islamic religious institute (the initial nomenclature of Qomaruddin University) with BRIN. "Our togetherness has actually gone through quite a long stage, because it is an accumulation of the cooperation of the Islamic Religious Institute at that time with the cooperation of BRIN," he said.

Furthermore, Aswadi hopes that this research can reveal the struggle of the founder of the Qomaruddin Kiai Qomaruddin Islamic Boarding School from the founding period to the development stage and future ideals. "With this research, it is hoped that it can reveal the struggle of Kiai Qomaruddin from the time of its establishment to the stage of development and aspirations for the future," he said. With this manuscript digitization activity, Aswadi said Qomaruddin University wanted to contribute so that the values contained in the manuscript could be known by many people.

"At this time, we and our friends from the ranks of Qomaruddin University want to contribute to cooperation and have independence, that the values contained in this manuscript can be expressed in digital form and can be known by many people," he added. (EAS, RBA/ed. set)
